The Vezelay Route is the second major route ont the Way of Saint James, after the Puy Route. Le Vezelay is a hilltop village of Burgundy and is the departure point of a 900 km (560 miles) to Saint Jean Pied de Port where several European Routes converge in France, before heading to the Camino Frances and Spain.
Located in Burgundy, the renown hill and perched Basilica, Unesco World Heritage since 1979, is also called the Eternal Hill and can be seen from the distance. The medieval town spreads on one of the slopes of that hill which the pilgrims have to walk up to discover Ste Madeleines Basilica,”this boat which has anchored at the horizon” (Paul Claudel).

This Romanesque Vessel is the temple of light which reflects inside the Basilica to reveal sculptures. This is the symbol of the eternal life.
