Port-Vendres is situated in the South of France near Collioure on Mediterranean Sea, close to the Spanish border.

Only natural port along the rocky coast ( called ” Côte Vermeille ” , because of the bright red colors of the rocks ), Port-Vendres is both a deep-water  port , typical Mediterranean fishing and yachting harbor working  all year round. Port-Vendres is also renowned for its numerous fish and sea food restaurants.

With its pebbled and sandy beaches and creeks,  it offers every seaside leisure facilities.
Set on the magnificent rocky slopes overlooking  Port-Vendres are the prestigious vineyards of Banyuls, which also produce the Collioure appellation.

A spectacular walk from France into Spain, discovering the magnificent contrasting landscapes along the Catalan coast. This walk combines sea and landscape, excellent even in the mild Mediterranean winter. It takes you along the Côte Vermeille, beloved by the artists Dali and Miro. The path from Banyuls to the border with Spain follows the route taken by Walter Benjamin, the German-Jewish philosopher, on 24th September 1940, and is the route followed by many Jewish refugees during World War II. From the coast to the mountains, from sea to crag, from sandy beach to shady Mediterranean forest … a diverse natural landscape full of contrast, history, with clear emerald waters and charming fishing villages, stunning views, friendly people and unique culture. ( Ici & Là Nature )

  1. Great photos. These are the kinds of towns where nationality, language, and identity can merge and morph together. The ancient rituals kick in, like those of the fisherman.
