Turenne is located on top of the limestone Martel Causse, and in a hilly region cut through by the green Dordogne and Vézère rivers. This is Limousin region and the Correze department bordering the most famous Lot and Dordogne department.
It cuts a fine figure with the remains of the castle and of the keep overlooking the elegant slate-roof houses running down the hill.
This city has seen a succession of four families of Viscounts from the 9th century. The town became a veritable feudal state after the Crusades and one of the great fiefs of France in the 14th century. Turenne had complete autonomy during 10 centuries. The Cesar Tower and the Treasure Tower, which are the castle vestiges as well as 15th and 17th century private mansions give an authentic charm to this place.
Turenne is a real open-air Museum and has been classified among the “Most Beautiful Villages of France”.
France is a hiking and biking paradise and our goal is to share our passion for the diversity of our country.
Turenne will soon be part of a new tour including 6 villages classified “the Most Beautiful Villages of France”
Thank you for your interest.

Those first two shots in the mist…… so beautiful. But then I enjoy all your images.

I always enjoy your beautiful pictures but haven’t commented for a while. I must say how gorgeous the stone buildings with flowers are and how lovely the misty waters scenes are. We have a breed of cattle in Australia called Limousin and after googling I realised that they were imported from France originally. I assume they may have originated from the Limousin region. It’s certainly a very picturesque area.
