In Provence, more precisely in Camargue which is a unique environment, Aigues-Mortes is located 6 km from the Mediterranean Sea.
It is on the Via Tolosana or Arles Route to Santiago de Compostela.
This city has seen crusaders and templars as well as the Religion Wars, but is now an attractive touristic city proud of its roots and of the wild land surrounding it.
In the 13th century King Louis 9th settled in Aigues Mortes because it was open on the Sea which facilitates the departure of the Crusaders. The city started to grow at that period.
The remparts are imposing : a square measuring 1640 m flanked by 5 remarkable towers and by 10 doors, protecting a major Religious Heritage.
