France – Walking the Pyrenean Foothill Route – Mirepoix – 25 photos.

Mirepoix is a medieval city just a few km South of the famous Carcassonne. Located in the Cathar Pyrenees, Mirepoix is what we call a bastide, first built in 1289. The colored half timbered houses on the main square as well as the Cathedral are the highlights.

If you walk on GR78 from Carcasonne to Lourdes you will spend the night there in the charming Maison des Consuls dating back to the 17th century, and maybe enjoy the market day (Monday morning).
